Everyone deserves a voice. I knew that was the statement I wanted on the top of my cap when I graduated from University of Central Florida in 2017. I had not traveled the stereotypical road to get to my degree, and I knew that would be my professional motto as a speech language pathologist.
I grew up in Erda, Utah on a small, idyllic farm that included pigs, chickens, and sneaky cows that escaped only on the most frigid winter mornings before the bus came. I loved playing all the sports, and spent as much time outside as I possibly could, including camping and hiking with my family. Once I graduated from Tooele high school, I spent a year at what was then Dixie State College. Then I changed tracks, became a medical assistant and had the opportunity to work as a Clinical Research Coordinator for medical drug trials for a variety of needs, such as depression, anxiety, smoking cessation, and weight loss.
Then I had my first child, who was born early at a mere 2.2 pounds. That is really when my journey into the world of speech therapy began–long before my career began! As a mother of a premature son who received speech-language services from infancy through high school, I experienced firsthand the profound impact a skilled SLP can have—not just on an individual, but on an entire family.
Our family travels gave us the opportunity to live in Washington, Utah where we had another son born only 6 weeks early this time. Then on to Jackson, Tennessee where our daughter joined our team right on schedule, and then we settled in and raised our kids in Oviedo, Florida for 11 years. I had finally come to live in a town that had a school with a communication sciences and disorders program and my children were just old enough for me to return to school. I re-entered the academic world to finally finish my schooling, and with the support of my husband and 3 kids, received my Bachelor’s degree in 2015, and my Master’s in 2017 from the University of Central Florida.
I am a passionate and versatile Speech-Language Pathologist with a heart for helping individuals find their voice—at every stage of life. Since graduating, I have worked across a wide range of settings, from elementary and middle schools in Florida to medically complex pediatric care, and now in Utah serving clients from preschool to adulthood.
My areas of expertise include early language development, social communication, Gestalt Language Processing, use of AAC, and supporting functional communication across the lifespan. Given my opportunity to sit on both sides of the table as a parent and now as a therapist, I am also highly skilled in IEP development.
I have been so blessed to have a range of life experiences that have molded me into the therapist I am today. I do truly believe that everyone deserves a voice, and I strive to support my clients to honor the therapists that supported me and my family and helped us find ours!
