From a very early age, I became curious about the path to health and longevity. As I gained more knowledge and insight, my interest in physical health grew into a desire to understand the complex interplay between the mind and the body. I am passionate about helping others understand the bidirectional relationship between psychological, social, and emotional factors and physical health and well-being.
I earned a doctorate in Clinical Psychology (emphasis in health) from Brigham Young
University’s APA-accredited program in 2017 and am board certified in Biofeedback through the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance (BCIA). I completed my pre-doctoral internship at the VA Salt Lake City Healthcare System and a postdoctoral fellowship in rehabilitation psychology at the University of Utah School of Medicine. These experiences offered me the opportunity to assist individuals in managing stress associated with acute and chronic disease states, as well as, in making behavioral changes that improved physical and mental health.
After completing my postdoc, I worked in healthcare as part of an interdisciplinary medical team providing psychological assessment and treatment to individuals with chronic pain. Additionally, I worked on an inpatient rehabilitation floor with individuals who were recovering from acute injuries/medical conditions. I am currently an Assistant Clinical Professor at BYU’s Counseling and Psychological Services where I provide individual, group, and biofeedback therapy services. Additionally, I teach courses on the Science and Practice of Positive Living and Mental Health and Well-Being. I enjoy the “preventative medicine” aspects of this position as it allows me to interact with and educate emerging adults on the benefits of proactively managing mental health. I joined Excel Psychology in the fall of 2023 and love being a part of the team!
I value my ability to educate and advocate for medical patients and clients. My therapeutic approach is integrative and incorporates evidenced-based practices from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy, mindfulness, and biofeedback. I am an ardent supporter of psychological testing to provide more accurate diagnoses and aid with treatment planning. I have training and experience in psychological assessment for behavioral health, learning, emotional, and neuropsychological disorders. I love the opportunity to understand each client’s unique history, to use psychological measures to help them better understand their challenges, and to awaken them to their strengths. This process supports individuals in their journey to better manage or compensate for their challenges and promotes resiliency and well-being.
Outside of my professional endeavors, I do my best to live a life that promotes my own mental health and well-being. I love spending meaningful time with my children and grandchildren, hiking in the mountains, riding my bike, and traveling to new places.
